Hello everyone and welcome to the rain we have all been longing for!
The grass is growing so we will be making hay after all and next Monday , May 17th we can at last open our doors and welcome our first bed and breakfast guests for 2021.
Even the swallows were late arriving this year but now they are swirling and swooping around the garden and farmyard and sipping water from the dewpond in the evenings. They are nesting above the horse barn in the tallet ( Devonshire for loft!) where we store our hay for the winter. It is easy to drop it down into the mangers below to feed the horses.
We have been replacing windows and laying new carpets to refresh the look of the farmhouse. We have painted the hallway and replaced part of the front lawn with a wonderful terrace to enjoy coffee in the morning or drinks as the sun goes down looking out over the patchwork quilt of the beautiful Devonshire countryside.
We had such excitement on May 1st as Woody our lovely grey riding horse produced a beautiful colt foal. She was 3 weeks and 3 days late! It was like lambing for 3 weeks with no lambs produced at all. We would take it in turns to get up twice in the night. Eventually at 3am Biddacott Buzzard appeared and was trotting round the field by 5am! Nature is truly amazing.
The wheat we tilled last autumn is looking good and the spring sown wheat and oats are catching up rapidly now with this rain after the driest April ever! So we will be able to keep the supply of Flour by Horsepower on track!
The blue bells and wood anemones are in full bloom in the woods so you can enjoy a lovely walk there on the farm trail and Jonathan has been very busy clearing the undergrowth and improving the pathways.
Looking forward to seeing lots of familiar faces again and some new ones as well.
Hope you are enjoying our lovely new website. We are so pleased with it thanks to Poppy-Lea Price our brilliant web designer.
Happy May bank holiday everyone
